Lima Convalescent Home is a 56 bed skilled nursing home care facility located on Allentown Road. We opened in 1958 as the first nursing home in the Lima area and remain a non-profit, community supported corporation. Our staff is highly trained to provide skilled care for the elderly and chronically ill. Our building also includes a dedicated Memory Care Unit, a highly regarded Rehab Wing and Therapy Department.

Because the unique style of living at The Greens has been so successful, we chose to bring that same culture of “home style” living to our Lima Convalescent Home Legacy Building. Our LCH west wing has undergone extensive remodeling to include a beautiful hearth room with a fireplace, kitchen area, and comfortable space to spend time. More private rooms with baths, and space for dining and family time make Lima Convalescent Home a premier skilled care nursing home.

We are guided by a volunteer board of trustees that live here and work here and all donations we receive are invested back into our facility to ensure our residents receive outstanding care and all the comforts of home.

Consider visiting Lima Convalescent Home, Lochhaven Apartments and The Greens before selecting a facility for yourself or a loved one. We would love the opportunity to show you our beautiful campus and explain the many special features and services our residents enjoy.

Prior to the Lima Convalescent Home, the only options available to area seniors for long term care were to stay at home or to go to the hospital. Mr. Dan Ellis, then president of the Lima Memorial Hospital board of trustees appointed fellow trustee and Lima banker, Harry L. Solomon, to study the issue.

A plan was drawn up calling for a 40-unit home with 20 rooms for convalescent stays and 20 rooms for long term care. A four acre lot on Allentown Road, owed by Mr. & Mrs. Russell Graham, was purchased for $10,000. Local contributions totaled $325,000 by the end of 1954.When augmented by the U.S. Public Health Service funds, the needed $438,000 was realized and building began in 1956. Two years later, the two-wing facility, which boasted 50 beds, opened.

Lima Convalescent Home remains a nonprofit corporation and continues serving the needs of elders more than 50 years later.
